Between roles, or new to the UAE. Start earning on projects while you look for the right full-time job.
Permit & visa
Freelance work permit and visa in the UAE
Two different documents, constantly confused with each other. You need both, and they have to come from the same sponsor. Membership covers the pair.
The freelance permit
Your right to do paid work. halaex signs the contract with your client, so they deal with a licensed company, not an individual.
Included in membershipThe residence visa
Your right to live in the UAE, with Emirates ID, a bank account and everything else that follows from residency.
Included in membershipWhat you get
- Contracts issued under halaex — the client signs with a licensed entity, and you deliver the work
- UAE residence for two years — renewable, running alongside your membership
- Emirates ID and medical — processed as part of onboarding
- Multiple clients at once — no restriction to a single employer
- Contracts that hold up — every engagement papered properly
What you avoid
- Buying a trade licence and renewing it every year
- Free zone office or flexi-desk commitments
- Chasing PRO agents for each stage of the process
- Filing and audit obligations that come with owning a company
- Working on a visit visa, or invoicing with no legal cover
A permit alone does not let you live here. A visa alone does not let you invoice. You need both, from the same sponsor. halaex gives you both.
No hassle
You run the client work. A dedicated team runs everything else.
halaex is a platform, not an agency you have to chase. The admin that normally eats an independent's week — books, visas, contracts, invoices — sits with a team that does it every day.

FAQ
Questions professionals ask
Do I need my own company licence?
No. Engagements are contracted under halaex, so there is no company for you to register, renew or audit.
Is there a membership fee?
Yes. Membership covers two years of portal access and your UAE work visa, along with contracts, invoicing and CRM. An advisor confirms the exact figures for your situation on the call, before you commit to anything.
What is the difference between a freelance permit and a freelance visa?
The permit is the licence to work independently and invoice clients. The visa is your residence in the UAE. They are separate documents and they have to come from the same sponsor to work together — halaex membership covers both.
How long does the freelance visa process take?
It depends on your current status. If you are in the UAE and changing status it is usually quicker than applying from abroad. An advisor gives you a realistic timeline for your case on the call.
Can I work with more than one client?
Yes. Multiple clients and concurrent engagements are supported, each with its own contract, milestones and invoices in the portal. Fractional executives typically run three to five at once.
Can I work remotely?
Yes. You can work remotely, on-site with a client, or a mix of both.
Can I do this alongside a full-time job?
Often yes — fractional and advisory work is exactly what many members join for. It depends on your current status and employer NOC, so an advisor will confirm your position before you commit.
I'm outside the UAE. Can I join?
Yes. Membership includes the work visa, so halaex handles the entry permit and residence process for you to relocate.
